Though it may appear so circumstances do not in fact drive our experience of life it is our MIND which fuels our emotional state and our emotional state is the determining factor in whether or not we enjoy our experience of life. I have had nothing and have experienced both happiness and despair. I have also had everything and yet, I still experienced both happiness and despair. This EXTREME contrast of circumstances taught me that we are 100% in control of how we feel. It is not CIRCUMSTANTIAL, it is SOLELY INTERNAL.
If we desire a balanced, calm and contented life then we must dedicate ourselves not to the pursuit of success, not to the pursuit of the external but instead to the pursuit of ELEVATING OUR MINDS. We do this through meditation, through observation, through learning, through gaining perspective and finally through rewiring.
My first introduction to seriously working on my mind (an ongoing journey) was in 2013 via the teachings of Robina Courtin, an Australian Buddhist nun. Though I am not Buddhist I was strongly influenced by her work and many of my views remain aligned. Robina has an impressive capacity to take Buddhist philosophy and make it relevant and accessible today. I highly recommend viewing her teachings, many of which are available on youtube.
